Dr. Jenn Lynch, co‑director of Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Center for Marine Debris Research, recently delivered a compelling talk titled "Tides of Impact: Culture, Science & Solutions to Plastic Pollution"—part of the Cultures and Coastlines Speaker Series at the Maui Ocean Center.
Her presentation wove together a powerful blend of cultural wisdom and scientific insight, spotlighting the urgent threats of plastic pollution to Hawai‘i’s coastal ecosystems. Drawing on over 20 years of expertise, Dr. Lynch highlighted her groundbreaking work on microplastics, ghost nets, and persistent chemical pollutants impacting marine life—from sea turtles to coral reefs—and shared research-driven solutions for communities to take action.
This event was hosted by Pilikahakai Foundation in partnership with the Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute, ‘Āina Momona, and other local conservation groups.
